COBRA
Wanit Jarungkit-anan

A man, a woman (or two) and ... a snake

Meikkhala stopped struggling and closed her eyes, caught in a wave of desire – What’s happening? What’s the matter with him? How come he is so forceful at such a time of day and in such a place? – caught in confusion as if she were floating in some kind of dream. She felt her back coming into contact with the dew-sprinkled leaves. The crackling of the dead leaves mingled with the chirping of small birds which seemed to answer from afar, and the perfume of the saiyut was heady. Meikkhala opened her eyes as though waking up from a dream. It was quite bright already but the thin mist gave the trees a magic, hazy beauty. His soft hands and mouth were still active. Meikkhala took a deep breath and marvelled at the wonder of it all. Her drowsy eyes looked up and at that moment opened wide in fright as she saw something moving on the highest bowing branch of the saiyut ... A snake! The cobra!
